Breaking-up Concert. On Saturday evening" 'tho pupils of Miss Montague held their annual break- . up and distribution of prizes at her residence, 59 Majoribanks Street. The following pupils contributed .to tho programme:—Misses Heley, Hawson, Jacobs, Lrickie, Green, Atkinson, Dawson,' and . Masters Benuett, L. Bennett, and D. Mar'tiu, all tho items being enjoyed by parents and friends. Tho supper was laid in the dining-room and the tables were arranged .with roses. The largo drawjng room was decorated with carnations and sweet peas..' At the conclusion of the programme Miss Montague was presented by her pupils with a handsome case of afternoon cake f0r1.9 as a gift for her approaching marriage. The prizes wore then distributed. Miss Beryl Jacobs came first for general improvement, and also won tho alto contest prize and theory prize. Miss Greca \von the second prize for improvement. Miss Lockie was the winner of. the technio prize, and Miss Atkinson and Master J. Bennett were equal contestants for the school children's prizes. A short musical programme was given • by friends, Mrs. Sutcliffe reciting and Miss Montague playing a pianoforte solo. Rechabites' Social. ■A very successful "social" and progressive euchro party was givei> bv the Perseverance Tent, So. 0, of the Independent' Order of Rechabites on Friday evening at the new Century Hall for the purposo of celebrating tho "75th anniversary of. the order, and the 38th anniversary of tho Tent. Bro. B. Burton, C.R.. presided. Vocal items were contributed by Miss C. Liez and Mrs. Collins, a pianoforte solo by Miss Campion, and a recitation by Mr. J. Petherick, which . were all well received. / Mr. R. A. Wright, M.P., and Mrs! Wright, Mr. J. P. Luke. M.P., and Mrs. Luke were amongst the •guests. During the evening a presentation of a framed D.C.R. emblem was presented to Bro. William Johnson, the founder of Rechabitism in Wellington, by the district officers for long and meritorious services. Bro. Johnson suitably replied. The prize-winners in the euchre tournament were Miss Pritchard, with : thirteen points, and Mr. Gregg, with fifteen point's.. Booby prizes were given to Miss Pepper and Mr. Whitford. Mr. .Wright, M.P., presented the . prizes to the winners! The programme had to be curtailed owing to the lateness of tho : hour. Votes of thanks -were passed to the » energetic - secretary Bro. C. S. Kelly and ■'His'wife; Mr. R..A. Wright, to all the ■; contributors of the programme and to the . chairman. : Light, refreshments were then served to the'guests, after a very enjoy- ' 'able 'and" social evening- had' : been spent, i Mrs. Kevins, of Annadale, is visiting Wellington. The engagement is announced of Miss Vida Kennedy, daughter of Mr. W. Kennedy, of Wellington, to Dr. Alexander * Wilson, of Wanganui. . Dr.'and Mrs. Mirams (Hutt) are spending a few days in Auckland. v Mr.: .and. Mrs. Frank Dillon are the ' guests of Mrs. Fell. Dr. and Mrs. Barrett, together with their two sons, have returned from their ■ visit to America. Mrs. Alan Strang, of Palmcrston North, . ; is visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. , Nicholas Reid. ■' Miss Amy Murphy and Miss Nellie Black, who- visited Wellington recently .with the .Norman-Blitz Concert Company, returned to town by,'the. express yesterday . afternoon, and on Friday will leave for Sydney in the Marania. • Miss May Moore, late of Wellington, has set up in business as a photographic artist in Sydney. The Wellington business is being conducted by her sister, Miss M. Moore. A meeting of the Society for tho Protection of the Health of Women and Children was held on Friday, Mrs. A. R. Atkinson presiding. Tncre were present Mesdames G. Ponsonby, C. Izard, Holgate, and Glover. Several cases were dealt .with, ■including one of alleged neglect of children, another of cruelty, and a case in which children had been removed from an undesirable home.
