HUTT BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The Lower Hutt Borough Council met last evening, there being present the Mayor (Mr. Ji.-.P. Bunny), and Councillors Baldwin, Pearce, Hawthorn, Hayes, Bai,low, Clere, and' Hacaskill. The Pelone Borough Council reported that tjip cause of "jumping" gas lights had been discovered and dealt with. A statement was forwarded jvitli a view to adjustment of accounts. The statement was approved. The Wellington Education Board applied for a free water sarvice in con- ■ nection with the sewerage system at the Hutt School on the same lines as existed in connection with' the King's fioad School. . It was resolved'to grant the application. Mr. Ii;; Slovens inquired when the council- intended to extend its sewerage system to 'Laingls Road. The clerk was instructed to reply that ■ the council shad the work in- hand. Dr. -Purdy,' -medical officer, reporting on the state of a fowl-run, owned bv a Hutt' settler, stated that its condition constituted a nuisance detrimental to health. A similar renort from the Works Committee was laid before the council. • It was decided to notify the owner of the run that it must be removed by December 21 next. The council resolved that when in future its meeting night (Monday) fell on a public holiday,, another suitable date should be chosen. The''engineer was instructed to proceed with kerbing and channelling in Waterloo Road. Councillor Baldwin moved that a return of all rates paid by religious bodies lie laid on the table at nest meeting. Curtain churches, Councillor Baldwin stated, ■ had halls standing; ion ground which was exempt from rates. This, ho held, was not right. The nioljon was carried. The engineer stated that a road on the gully at Belmont needed a post and rail fence (cost .530) on ono side to mako it safe for traffic. It was'agreed (hat the work be carried out. ' ■ . ,Tlie engineer reported that 172 permits under tho drainage and saniiarv bv-laws had been issued to date. Three connections had been mode with the gas-mains and twelve- with the water-mninr. since date of previous report. . The. total number of water-services in the borough to date was CGO. , It was resolved; to nurchase a pumping engine suitable for the council's work;-
