CHILD SWALLOWS HALF A CROWN.
OPERATION AFTER EIGHT MONTHS. (By Telegraph-Press Association.) Auckland, December 12. - A noteworthy surgical operation waa performed in Auckland a few days ago. Eight months'ago a child was stated to have swallowed half-a-erown. The medical man who made an examination concluded that thestatement was unfounded and the child''seemingly recovered, but a month ago, it again became ill, and was'again presented for medical examination. This time tho Rontgen rays werß brought into use, and the medical practitioner discovered ; the half-crown embedded in the lower portion of tho sufferer's gullet. A tube was inserted, intt which was placed a pincers, and with thl. latter tho coin was seized and successfully extracted. The child has completely recovered. '■■..-.
