; ■..' SHOW AT PALMERSTON. (By Tcleßraph.-Succial Correspondent.) . Palmorston N., December 7. Tho first show 'under the auspices of the National Sweet Pea Society of New Zealand was opened by the Mayor (Mr. J. A. Nash) in the Agricultural Hall at the Showgrounds this afternoon. It proved a. splendid success. There are over n thousand vases of superb blooms, and tho exhibition is pronounced as easily the finest exhibition of sweet peas ever got together in tho Dominion. The exhibitors ■are also very representative, coming as tliey do from Auckland, Taranaki, Wellington, Manawatu, Wairarapa, and other districts. There was good average competition right through, and in some sections it was particularly keen, more .especially in the decorative sections. The, judges were Dr. Carberry, of Stratford, Mr.. H. A. Fox, of Wellington, Mr. C. Ti'evethick, of Lower Hutt; and Miss Murray, florist, Wellington. They pronounced the .flowers as being, in their opinion, very fine, particularly thoso grown by Messrs. J; Goring Johnston, Palmerston North, and G. C. Holder, Porirua. Messrs. Yates and Co., of Auckland, and C. Trevethick, of Lower Hutt, also had very fine displays for exhibition only. The following is a list of tho trophy, winners :— President's trophy—Mr. J. Goring Johnston. New Zealand championship.—Mr. G. C. Holder, Porirua. Palmerstoii' North trophy.—Mr. G. C. Holder. Corbpuld trophy.-Mr. G. C. Holder. Taranaki Cup.—Mrs. Dr. Douglas, Ham- . Yates trophy.—Mr. J. Goring Johnston. New Zealand championship, for docwated table, (trophy presented by the ladies of Palmerston North).—Mrs. Bruce Beale. ' , The secretary (Mr. 13. A. Osmond, of Stratford) and the committee had all the arrangements very perfect, and the exhibition generally was very creditable to all concerned.
