AORANGI DUE THIS MORNING. This morning tho Union Company's San Francisco trader Aorangi is-duo at Wellington, and will berth at Queen's Wharf : No. 6 to disembark passengers and diecharge cargo. The vessel left thw can port on November 16,' and made calls at Papeete and Rarotonga, en route for Wellington* As mentioned in a previous issue; tho Aorangi had 1000 tons of careo and 90 passengers on board. '' " ANOTHER OCEAN EACE. ■ According .to. advices to hand, the fourmasted barciuentlne John O. Jleycr and the four-masted schooner F. 31. Slade, two of the smartest lumber carriers employed in tho trade between tho Pacific Slope and Australia, commenced what should nrovo an exciting race to San Francisco from Newcastle, on December Z. Both vessels are coal-laden, the former with 1318 tons, and tho latter with 1025 tons, and got away' within an hour of each other, tho John C. Meyer being the first to clear Noblcys. Captain Murchison is confident of his vessel reaching the Golden Gate first, but Captain Johnson, ot the "Slade," has equal confidence in tho sailing capabilities of his ship. ARRIVAL OF THE MANUKA. -Arriving in the stream at 9.50 a.m. yesterday, the Manuka, from Sydney direct, berthed at No. 1 Queen's Wharf North about 11.20 a.m. Leaviug Sydney at 3.30 p.m. on Saturday last, the Manuka met with light northerly winds and seas which increased to a strong gajc. On Sunday last thoso on board had a rather exciting time, for the steamer ran into an "extraordinary electrical disturbance, which lasted for fourteen hours through Sunday night. Overcast and rainy weather continued until the New Zealand coast was sighted. Included in the vessel's cargo aro 1100 cases of fruit, consisting of apricots, c.iofrics, plums, oranges, pineapples, and the first of the season's water-melons, 'i'he Manuka also brought. 23 head of prize cattle, and a large quantity of general 'cargo, including transhipments ex the following vessels:—Makura, Janus, Antwerp, Patras, Berlin, Smyrna, Colombo, Linden, Reichcnback, Bremen, Waldcmar, Lotlirinjen, Karoola, .Otway, Ouraka, Peregrine, Ooonia, Tairynau,-' Chauecba, Tasmania, Merca, Aravatta, and through cargo for transhipment to Papeete and 'Frisco by tho Aorangi, leaving here on December 14. WILL LOAD AT NEWCASTLE. Tho American schooner Layman D. Foster, which should shortly be on the way to Dunedin with a cargo of lumber.from Colombia River, has been added to tho already large list of American-owned vessels under charter to load coal at Newcastle for America. It was mentioned previously that two other vessel, which were recently in New Zealand waters— tho. steamers Kylemohr and Croyden—had been .chartered to load at the Sew South Wales port, the former for Honolulu and the latter for San Francisco. APAIUHA AND WAITEJIATA. . The Union Company are in receipt of advice which, states thoi their two Calcutta steamers, Aparirna, and Waitemata, ara now on their way to New Zealand. The Aparinia- left Calcutta on Thursday for Auckland,' Wellington, Dunedin, and the Bluff, and is coming via Singapore and Samarang. She is due at Auckland about -January 28, and Wellington about four days later. Tho Waitemata left Calcutta, on Friday last for Lyttelton direct, and is due there about December 28. Her other ports are Timaru and Oamaru. In respect to an announcement made same weeks back, to tho effect that the Aparima. was engaged to Lurry a cargo of hardwood to the East from Tasmania, it ehouM be mentioned that she has been withdrawn from that business. The Waitemata is tq take her place. On her return. to Wellington from her present trip to the Ease Coast, the Hippie resumes her weekly trips between Wellington ' and Napier. At 7.30 a.m. yesterday, the Navua left Auckland.for Wellington with the balance of her cargo of fruit from. tho Islands. The vessel is expected in port to-morrow. The Shaw, Savill and Albion Company's steamer Pakeha is expected to leave Port Chalmers- on December 16 to load zt northern ports. ■.-■■-.-..■■■ It- is reported that the auxiliary schooner Hananui, which is to go- to tho Campbell Islands in connection with the whaling industry there, is to leave Auckland in a day or so for Hahurangi auu uieymoum.
