9- — ; A CATCH OF SIXTEEN. ,'' (By Telcgraph.-Spccial Correspondent.) Auckland, December 7. The pioneer vessol of a revived industry, namely, that of whaling, returned to Auckland yesterday afternoon after spending a successful season in the north. The vessel, the Hanamii 11., left Auckland in June list, and has been engaged in pursuit of whales in the vicinity of Poor Knights and Cape Brett, null sho also went as far afield as Norfolk Island. The catch amounted to 16 fine humped-back whales, and the oil extracted from then: averaged about five tons Esr whale. ■ After undergoing an overaul'at Auckland, the Hauanui II leaves for the Campbell Islands, where the rteht whale will be her preyt
