MUSEUM IN DIRE STRAITS.

' HOW TO SAVE IT? . (By Tolcsrapn.—Special Corrcsnondent.) '-.■ ■ . Wanganui, December 7. Of late the trustees of. the Wanganui Museum had been in financial "straits. The odlj- revenue is from annual subscribers and subsidies' from local bodies, but these are insufficient to ,nay the annual charges, and the trustees have been seriously thinking of closing the institution. An appeal'by the "Herald" for funds produced ,£275, . which, however, merely relieves present anxieties, and leaves the qnestion of providing for the future still to be faced. The inatter was referred to by several councillors at the Borough Council meeting last night, the opinion being expressed that the time had come when the council should take the museum over. Nothing was decided, but the probabilities are that this will be done at no distant date.
