FERRY CALLS AT CLYDE QUAY.

•'THE CHANCE REMOTE. • In answer to a question as to the advisability of tho Ferry Company's steamers making .a call at Clyde Quay wharf for the convenience of residents of ■Wellington South on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays, as mentioned yesterday, Mr. Zolirab, managing director. of tho Wellmgton Steam FeTry Company said: "The present wharf is the Ferry Wharf for. tho port of Wellington. Special permission, has to be obtained from tlra Harbour Board, and this permission has to ba asked for not by the Ferry Company but by the people in whoso district tho wharf stands. I do that-the HarbourBoard will grant'the request, even if.it is put before them. If, however, they do so, my company will, perhaps, consider tho question." Mr. 'Zohrab went on to ' say that, Hwhis opinion, tho existing oar service forms a handy means of reaching tho Ferry Wharf-, from the south, end of tho city, and, when the new extension from Willis Street to the General Post Office is working, it will be, more so. A prominent mC7ubtr of. the Harbour Board, when approached oh tho matter, ; said that he did not think that tho.boaTd would grant any snch request As indicated,' because the Clyde Quay wharf was wanted for-, berthing accommodation for ships, and, in the.future, would be veTy : much used. There would, consequently, be no room for'ferry, boats to land pasKcnuers there.
