Tho body of a well known character Patrick O'Connor was discovered by two High School boys at an early hour this morning, lying dead faco downwards in three feet of water in tho Avon. Thero ? .was a small cut on tho left eye, probably caused through falling. Do- ( ceased, according to tlio police report, went out last night on a drunken bout with, another man, and it is-• thought that most likely ho fell in tlio river when drunk. Deceased leaves a widow and a family of twenty-three children. DEATH PROM DROWNING. Auckland, December 4. A man named John F. Schaffer,-who i resides at Hobsonville, was drowned in the harbour on Saturday night. He fell off the Northcoto Ferry teo at tho ' city, and apparently struck the wharf ® in falling. r CYCLIST INJURED. a Chrlstchurch, December 3. f Whilst ho was taking part in the i "Press" bicycle road race to-day tho t fork of A.
