THE FIVE MILLION LOAN*
STATEMENT BY THE PRIME MINISTER. A statement with reference to thai ' five million loan was mado by tho Prime. Minister in tho House of Representstives on Saturday evening. Ho stated: that he had been informed that morning by a representative of one of thoi Homo firms which were concerned witty the underwriting of the loan, to th« fipft that a parcel of about' £100,000 that had been underwritten by the institution had. been sold on the open market at £9S 10s. net par. This meant • that the loan was going out in a very, satisfactory manner. He did not want! ■ to givo tho name of the institution because' he was not suro he had thai liberty , to do so. : "What it shows," added Sir Joseph Ward, "was, that despite the fact that tho loan was taken! ■ up by the underwriters, it was noW going out at a not less amount thani was paid for it, which was very satiV■ factory from the point of view of thisi country."
