— -0 . (From Our Spccial Correspondent.) Palmerston December 3. The committee of tlio Military and Naval Tournament has received definite news that a team from the Australian Field Artillery will take part in tho tournament. The committee has been particularly anxious to secure a representative team' fiom Australia, and the entry now made will give a great filip to the tournament, which promises well to be a record gathering, judging from tlio numerous entries already in, and the inquiries being made by corps all over the Dominion. At a,meeting of tho committee last night tenders for various privileges (including refreshment and publican's booth) were accepted, tho gathering being placed in tho hands of Messrs. Dustin, Ltd. Special trains to run to and from Wellington liave been arranged. The Manawatu Mounted Rifles, who are in camp at Te Matai, near Palmerston, are putting in a considerable amount of solid work. In tho early mor.ning physical drill is indulged in, and after breakfast and in the afternoon mounted drill is tho principal work. The. local Fire Brigade is actively practising for three competitions which have been arranged, viz., one man coupling event, four men horse reel event, and an ordeal competition. The latter is really an examination into the qualifications of tho brigadesmen.. Tho first-mentioned events will como off on December. 12. In connection with tho Palmerston Choral Society's proposed production of the oratorio "The Messiah" tlio following soloists have been appeinted:—Soprano, Madamo Briggs (AVanganui); contralto, Miss Nellie Castle (Welling-, ton); tenor, Mr. Sydney Butler (Wanganui); bass, Mr. J. W. Ryan (Auckland). The Friendly Societies' Council propose to bold a special meeting at an early date, to consider the establishment of a Friendly Societies' dispensary. The newly-formed Terrace End Cricket Club has clccted the following officers: —Patron, Mr. J. A. Nash; president, Mr. G. H. Bennett; vice-presidents, Messrs. S. Greer, T. Cliilds, . H. Sinclair, N. H. Nash, and M'Namara; secretary and treasurer, It. Donald; captain,' A. V. Fox; vice-captain, W. A. Hicks; committee, Messrs. Burbush, Roberts, Collins, Greenwood, and M'Leaver, and tho captain and vicecaptain; delegate, A. Y. Fox; selectors, captain,- vice-captain, and secretary.
