In the Police Court this morning Charles Henry Bannister pleaded guilty, and was committed for sentence, on charges of stealing articles to the value of about £15 from a boarding-house.' ' The Conciliation Council, sitting under the presidency of Mr. Hark Giles, Conciliation Commissioner, to consider tho demands of Hhe Shearers' Union, has arrived at a partial settlement of the dispute. AMY BOCK'S PRISON CONDUCT. Dunodin, December 2. Tho conduct of Amy Bock, who was sentenced to two years' imprisonment and declared an habitual criminal,, has been exemplary in gaol, and her sentence, taking in the remission, has now expired. She will shortly bo sent to New Plymouth prison. FIRE AT SPRINCLANDS, Blenheim, December 2. A house ownod and occupied by Stephen Tapp, junr., at Springlands, was completely destroyed by fire yesterday afternoon, together with practically all tho contents. Tho house was insured in tho United office, but tho amount is not available. Tho furniture was covered by-a policy of £160 in the Now Zealand offico. Mr. Tapp is a heavy loser.
