ST. ANDREWS DAY.
If the weather could be depended upon to favour the, anniversary of the national saints' days as it favoured St. Andrew yesterday, the never-ending discussion as , to whether they should be retained in the calendar of holidays would terminate. It was one of Wellington's golden. days, with a clear sky, a genial summer sun, and just the whisper of a breeze in the open from Cook Straits to temper the heat to the holiday-maker. The recreation grounds, bowling greens, and beaches were all well patronised, and a large number of people journeyed across tho harbour to Witness the balloon ascent at Day's Bay. A. good number of people left tho city by yesterday's early express to attend the races at Eeilding.
