THE CULLINAN DIAMOND.
ADDED TO ROYAL JEWELS.

London, November 28. ■ The larger Cullinan diamond ''hae been placed in the King's Scoptre, and the smaller in the Crown, -under the Black Prince's ruby. Both are detachable.for the Queeh'a use.
The Cullinan diamond was scooped out of a cutting in the Premier Mine at Johannesburg with a pocket-knife by an overseer who was going his rounds oh the evening of January 26, 1305. "When weighed it proved to be far and away the largest diamond ever found, the weight being 3025J English carats, or over 1 1-310. avoirdupois. The diamond was bought on time-payment by the Transvaal Government, and. after being cut nt Amsterdam, the principal stones were presented to King Edward, in commemoration of the grant of eelf-govern-ment to the Transvaal. They were afterwards added to the .Crown jewels. During the cutting process the diamond was insured for .£250,000. '.
