(Specially written' for The Domikiok.) /WEDNESDAY. Cold corned beef. Salad. Macaroni , chceSo. Rhubarb tart. MACARONI CHEESE. Quarter of a pound macaroni , , -Joz. flour, Soz. dry cheese, .Job. butter, mixed mustard, cayenno 'and salt to taste, 3-pint of milk. . Vut the macaroni, broken in small pieces, into boiling ivator, with a little salt, and boil until tender —threequarters of an hour or more. Mako a sauce >by molting the butter, stir in tho flour, add tho milk, boil well, stirring all the time; atld seasoning, half the cheese, and tho macaroni to tho sauce ;■ put into a greased pie-dish, sprinkle tho rest of the cheese on the top, and bako about ten minutes, to brown tho .top. Mother Aubsrt's Presentation. , The final meeting in connection with the'"presentation "to tho Bet. Mother Aubert was hold'in the Town Hall, on Monday evening. A very satisfactory number' of helpers to assist in the street canvas have offered themselves for servico, and everything, augers well for its suocess. The box plan for tho , concert and presentation to take placo in tho evening is now open at the Dresden Piaiio Company's rooms. Any ladies wishing to assist in the street canvas should forward their names and addresses to the lion, secretary, 14 (Austin Street, or call at tho Town Hall on Saturday niornißg. A Newtown Dance. An enjoyable danco was given,by the staff of the Newtown District High School-last week r in .tho Masonic Hall, Newtown. During tho first half of .the programme musical numbers were contributed by Mr. and Mrs. F. P. Wilson, Miss Reid, Messrs.'. Low and Tunley, and Mr. and Miss Kowley. A gleo was also given by the members of the staff, and proved not tho least enjoyable item of the programme. A tempting supper was provided, the tables being prettily arranged with roses. Among those present wore Miss Dowdeswcll, Mrs. Wilson, Mrs. Low, Miss.Wilson, Miss Tralieur, Miss Rowley, Miss Cederholm, Mies M'Kenzie, Miss 0. Carr, Miss Coad, Miss C. ' ; A sale'of .work was held in the schoolroom of'the Church of Christ,-Vivian Street, yesterday afternoon, Mr.'R. A. •Wright, M.P., performing'the opening ceremony. A great amount of trouble had been gono to in decorating tho room and the various stalls, and the numerous brightly-coloured Chinese lanterns, lit in the evening, added/g'reatly to the general effect. There was a ■quaint r little to bo seen
from which quantities of beautiful flowers could be bought, and all the other 'stalls'had been planned with a'view to originality of design. The stalls and stallholders wore as follows:—Plain work: Mrs. Chant, Mrs. Colebrook, Mrs. M'Crackitt, and Miss Johnstono. Sweet stall: Miss Colston and Miss Shakes. Flower stall: Mrs; Nation,' Miss Watt;'and Miss Masters. Fancy' work: The Misses Stewart (2) and Mrs. Proud. D'oyly and handkerchief stall: Miss G. Johnstono and Miss Har-

A' musicarprogramme' under Mr. Beiv-' ley was given in tho evening. The sale will be continued this afternoon and evening. Girls' Realm Guild. The members of the Kia Ora Centre of the Girls' Realm Guild.are arranging for a feto to bo held in tho Congregational Schoolroom, Courtenay Place, "on Saturday, December -10, for the purpose of raising funds to provide Christmas treats for various "Homes," lepers, and those who havo 110 one to look to for any littlo friendly acts or kindnesses. During the afternoon musical and elocutionary itenis will bo given, -and- a special feature for the children will be a Christmas tree, on which will bo suspended a. large number of dressed dolls and toys of all descriptions. There will also be stalls for home-made sweets cut flowers, handkerchiefs, and d'oyleys, and a place provided for teacup leadings. Afternoon tea, of course, will also be- provided. The Girls' Realm Guild is most energetic in helping those cases of destitution which are brought under its notice, and at Christmas time, more than at any other, probably, is a little kindly thought appreciated by thoso for whom it is expended. Wellington French Circle. A very enjoyable entertainment was given, by tho French Circle in the Mariuo Engineers' Institute last evening,a largo number of people being present. The- first part of tho programme was wider tho direction of Mr. James Dykes, hon. i-ecretary of the Wellington Savage: Club, thoso contributing to it being Savages—such well-known ones as Mr. Borneo Gardiner, Jlr. D. Kenny, Mr. Porter, Mr. Brown (who showed some of his clever paper work, tearing paper into various resem-j blances), Mr. A.. Newton, and Mr. Dykes. A little speech of thanks to I
tho. Savages was made- by the Hon. R-ig'g, and then supper was handed round. The second part of the programme was taken up with a French play entitled "Lo Major. . Cravachon," arid, perhaps, for it was not everyone present . who was acquainted with
French, it was just as well that there was a translation giving tho. substance of tho play to bo obtained. An obdurate" father, ,a pretty daughter, suitors, tho trouble being ivifch tho father that nono were sufficiently irasciblo for him, a duel, masquerading by a friend of tho. daughter, and by the lover, complications, and finally n clearing away of the difficulties —these arc tho points upon which the play centres itself, though they aro not all acted before tho eyes of tho audience. Tho part of Major Le Cravachou was taken by Mr. L. Dußou, who appeare dto bo thoroughly at homo in his part. Dervieros (in lovo with the pretty daughter) was acted by Mr. Adamson; Antoniu by Mr. Chapman; a nfitary (another lover) by Master Duflou; Olympo by Miss M. Putnam, who acted with great vivacity and daintiness; and Amelio by Miss M. Pollock, in the disguise, hardly inipenotrable, of an officer. It was most amusing to watch and speak, for the gain that is mado in the knowledge of French, by being a niombcr of the French Club. , ■
A Wedding. : Jlr. T. Hill, chief officer of tlio Kurow, and third sou of the lato Mr. T. Hill, Collector of Customs at Auckland, was married on Monday at Island Bay to Miss Elsie Walker, daughter of tlio lato Justice Walker, of Sydney. The marriage took place in tlio house of Air. Willis, secretary of the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, and the service was performed by the Rev. Shirer. Wedding in (London. i A .wedding of interest to New Zealanders took placo last month at Westminster Chapel, London, when. Mr. Charles J. Nairn, eldest son of the late 0. J. Nairn, of Hawke's Bay, was married to Miss Lilian H. Ambler, younger daughter of the lato Dr. Vincent Ambler, of London, and Mrs. Ambler,. of Eastbourne. (•Mrs. Charles E. Holmes (Wanganui) left by the New Plymouth express this morning after a pleasant visit spent lyith her daughter, Mrs. George Nelson, Kelburne. '. The Misses Dawson (2), sisters of Captain Dawson, who have just arrived in New Zealand from England, left for Duncdin yesterday. : Miss Elsio Watson left Wellington yesterday for Auckland, where her brother's wedding takes placo very shortly. Green, who is retiring from the Post and Telegraph Department, in order to be married, 1 was presented by. the officers of the secretary's staff. yesterday with a token of their esteem in the shape of a silver teapot, and hot-water jug. Mr. D. Robertson, secretary of the Department, made the presentation, and Mr. A'. T.
