FIRES IN THE CITY.
DRAPERY PREMISES ABLAZE. About a quarter past, two o'clock on Saturday morning a fire broke out' in Deidrich's buildings, 194 and. 196 Cuba 'Street. Mr. H. J.' Archer had. just shifted drapery stock there to conduct a. sale on Saturday as the result of the fire in his shop in Upper Cuba Street. The Fire Brigade succeeded in suppressing the outbreak heforo much damage had been done. The. origin of tho fire is not known. Mr. Archer's stock was' not insured, and the insurances on the building cannot be ascertained until today as tho owner resides but of town.
THE HAY STREET FIRE.
In connection with' the fire at 3 Ha-y Street, reported in Saturday's issue, it appears that the houses on either side also sustained some damage before the flames were quelled. On No. 1 tho insurances were £200 in the South British on the building and £115 on the contents in the Royal Exchange, No. 1 is owned by by Mr. W. H. Ward, and occupied by Mr. John Orr. On No. 5, owned and occupied by Mr. Colvin, the insurances wore £700 on the building and £200 on the contents, both in the South British. . SLIGHT DAMAGE IN A-KITCHEN. At 9.32 a.m. yesterday the Fire Brigade received a call to 251 Upper 'Adelaide Road, a dwelling occupied by Mrs. Sarah Cooper. There was a firo in the kitchen which was suppressed after slight damage had been done to the wall. The building and contents are insured in tho Alliance Office for £300.
