THE POINTS AT ISSUE. By TeksrapU-Press Associalion-Copyrieht. Melbourne, November 26. Papers relating to tho Vancouver mail service wero tabled in tho Senate. In the course of tho negotiations Sir Wilfrid Laurier (Canadian Prime Ministor) stated that he did not think it fair to the Government of New Zealand to excludo hor from tho service. In a later communication Sir .W. Laurior regrets that it will be impossible for Canada to disregard nny longer the requests of New Zealand for a call each way, and states that Canada was giving permission forthwith to the contractors to commenco such calls regularly, as soon as it was expedient.. Ho was trusting to the Commonwealth to see its wav to concur.

Sir Wilfrid.adds: ."In any case Canada is obliged to insist on a call at New Zealand under the contract from August 1 next." Mr. Fisher (Federal Prime Minister) replied that tho Commonwealth was -unable to mako .the alteration Sir W. Laurier asked under the present contract, but that the question of including Now Zealand under tho now contract would bo considered. Then followed Sir Wilfrid Lauricr's cable announcing that tho Union S.S. Company were tho only tenderers for tho service, and again asking that New Zealand bo included. Mr. Fieher's icply (already cablotl) regretted that he was unablo to accept tho tender in accordance with Canada's proposals. . ■ Tho correspondence there ends. A cable was received from Sir W. Laurier ou November 19, offering to add another Australian port of call, and hoping the Commonwealth could seo its way to reconsider tho matter, but adding that ho.did not think ! it possible to further ignore New Zealand's request. Sir Wilfrid Laurier adds that Sir James Mills had requested him to defer further action till he arrives in Australia.
