OUR LARGER MEAT WORKS.
ADVENT OF THE EXPORT SEASON.
Steady enlargement of operations is a feature common to most of tho big export slaughtering works in the North Island at tho present time. To an extont, notably in Hawke's Bay, tho season had been thrown'back by drought but this is not expected to affect in any important degrco tho uutuufc for tho year. Tho local ivories of the Gea' Meat Company and the Wellington Meat Export Company are each as yot employing only about ono-half their full board" of.butchers. .It is anticipated that, from this timo forward tho number of men employed will steadily increaso as supplies of stock become moro plentiful. Tho Hawke's Bay works at l'aki Paid, Tomoana, and Port Ahuriri all started export slaughtering last month, although none of them have yot attained their maximum output. At Castlccliff (AVanganui) export slaughtering started on Friday last. An earlier start would havo been made but for the fact that tho company has lately been extending ,\its freezing accommodation, and otlicr portions of its buildings. Hitherto operations have sometimes had to bo suspended during tho, season, pending tho arrival of a steamer' in the road° stead, owing to the limited storage available for frozen meat. With tho increased storage now, available, these I delays will be less liable to occur.
