THE ZOOLOGICAL SOCIETY.
His Excellency the Governor has intimated his acceptance of the position of patron of the, Wellington Zoological Society. The kiwis presented by" the society to the. Zoo sonio time ago are said to be thriving splendidly. The society recently 'presented- two Sexton weaver birds, and these 'arc making nests in the Zoo aviary, which, are attracting the attention of naturalists. A few days ago Mr. Foglia, of Vivian Street, presented'(through the society) to. the council two beautiful Paradise AVhydalo (or widow) birds, and now his partner,'• Mr. Copp, lias presented two cut-throat finches. The society is corresponding with the Prime Minister, and intends to do all that can bo clone to get a lioness as a mate for "King Dick," the magnificent young lion which has reached a condition. of handsome .maturity in the Park. , The president (Mr.-Crowes) reports that promises of animals suitable for the Zoo are being received, and that generally the' young society is in a flourishinjr condition.
