'■ Palmorston North, November 25. > The Palmerston Liedertafel wound up its season last evening by paying a visit—their usual custom—to the Hospital, where they rendered a musical programme. Most of the patients were wheeled into tho .largest, ward for the occasion. ■ Besides the concerted numbers solos wore given by: Messrs. H. IffaM, G. E. Kceble, W. J. Smith, S. N. Drew, arid E. Gardiner. At tho conclusion of tho programme tho Liedertafel was accorded a hearty vote of thanks. A number of members of the Amateur Boxing Club went out to Ashhurst last night, and gave an exposition of tho noble art." A club has been formed at Ashhurst, and is proving a success ihe party, from Palmorston was entertained, at supper. .Margaret Anno Ridd, milliner and dressmaker, has filed a declaration of insolvency. Tho liabilities amount to £016 3s. 4d., the assets ■ comprising-Stock-iii-trade £130, book debts, estimated to produce £5, and. furniture valued at £12, leaving a deficiency of £469 3s. 4d. ■
The United Mission, conducted by Dr. Henry and Mr. Potts, bold a special service for boy scouts at 9.30 o'clock on Sunday morning. The boys parade at 9 a.m., and, headed by the Boys' Band, will March to the A. and P. Hall, where the servico is to bo held. Loyal Manawatu Lodge of Oddfellows, M.U., met last night, Brother Pettctt, N.G., prosiding. Nomination of . officers for the current term , were received, and a quantity of routine business was transacted.
As there was not a quorum present, the annual meeting of the Philosophical Society, which- was to have been held last night, had to be postponed. A meeting of tho council was held, Mr. W. F. Uurw.ird (president) in the chair. The chairman read a paper compiled from letters from his urotlier, who had visited the Maldine Islands on one of tho Tho paper proved both amusing and instructive. Mr. D. Sin-' clair also read a, paper on "Local Vegetable Parasites," which was ■ also very, interesting. It was arranged to hold the annual meeting next Wednesday, when Mr. M. A. Bliott will read a paper. . Tho chairman informed tho council that Mr. R. M'Nab would shortly give an adress on "an evening in a New Zealand Library," and that Mr. M'Nab proposed to invite tho members of the society to spend an evening in his library, when no would show them his collection of M.SS., original logs, cte.i in connection with tho early history of New Zealand.
