The death occurred on Wednesday night of Mrs. Millner, of Hautere, aged •10 years. Deceased had apparently been in good health till a few days ago. The interment t?.kcs placo at Norsewood. Owing to pressure of private business of several Ilorowhemia County councillors the annual meeting o£ that body has beeii postponed till December 10. AVhilo .Mrs. and Miss Drake, of Manakau, wero spending the week-end at Levin tlisir horse, attaclicd to a trap, bolted, and some damage was done. Fortunately no one was in the vehicle at tho time. . I FEUDING, At the meeting of the Kiwitea County Council this week, the . chairman said that the best thanks of tho council were due to Jlr. I). H. Guthrie, 11.1'., for the manner in which he had placed before the proper authorities the applications of the council for roads and 'bridges grants, and the very satisfactory results that had been obtained. The Public Works Department was also to "be congratulated upon the dispatch with which the authorities had made the amounts of the grants available for expenditure. This had enabled the council to take advantage of the fine weather in carrying out various works. The Beaeonsfeld Creamery manager is at present putting through about 1000 gallons of milk daily, which is about tho same as- was the case this time last year. The tests range from 3.2 to 3.6. The following chairmen were elected at the annual meetings of tho County Councils yesterday:—Kiwitea, Councillor F. F. Hockly; Manawatu, Councillor J. Ct. Wilson; Orotia, ' Councillor Ci. C.' "Wheeler; Pohangina,. Councillor It. W. Brown; Kairanga,. Councillor D. A. Moodie. CARTERTON, •The Carterton branch of the Egg Circle for Wairarapa this week sent away over 300 dozen eggs to the Wellington market. A number' of members aro now. beginning .to-preserve their eggs, iu prospect of higher priccs later. . ' Mr. J. M'Causland, of Clareville, intends to lemodel his poultry farm, and is disposing of a good percentage of - his stock in order to do so. A, start lias been made with the erection of a Methodist parsonage here. .- It will be somo time before it is completed, as the timber is to be allowed to season well beforo being .used. ; SHANNON. Messrs. E. ,T. Judd, A. Saunders, ,W. Bernstcn, and T. F. Gibson have taken over the shop lately occupied by Mr. Symes, bootmaker, 1 and intend converting it into a.readjng and writing-room for the general public. . Tho community hope to be able to defray tho cost of rent, maintenance, etc., from the proceeds of concerts and other entertainments to be held' for this purpose. Jn October tho local Co-operative Dairy Company paid out ;E1765, at the rate of lid. per pound, to suppliers. Compared .with the corresponding month of last year, there is an increase of- ,£430. The butter-has been grading very satisfactorily lately—93 points being obtained. Until tho company began pasteurising.it was a matter of difficulty to achieve first grade, but nowadays it is an exceptional occurrence to get anything. else.
