• FREE DRINKS AT A CITY HOTEI. ' Liquor is said to havo been very cheap at a certain liotel in. the city on a day during the present week. There happened to be a change of oitnership, and the new proprietor was to bo on hand at a certain hour, but he was not punctual, and as the retiring landlord had an important business appointment in the city ha had to go away and leave the barman at the helm. Unfortunately for all oon-. corned, the day was hot, and the barmon resigned his command when a stranger ca'rao in and announced himself as the barman appointed by the new landlord. The new arrival appeared to have com~ passion on the multitude, for he was no 'sooner behind the bar than he "shouted", for everybody, and repeated the order several times. In the meantime an empty vehicle had drawn up outsido the door, but it was related that it was by no means empty when it moved off full sail five minutes later. Then the' barmatt left, and. when the .retiring landlord returned from the city there was more than one signal plainly indicating that there was trouble on the bar, and that t.ha' 6hip was not under, control.
