ROUTE 3IAECH BY 1000 MEN. At 4 a.m. to-day 'H.M.S. Powerful leaves Wellington for Nelson to pay her first visit to that port, and will subsequently proceed to Lyttelfcon, where sha will be in company with H.M-.S. Cambrian. The latter vessel leaves Wellington for Lj-ttelton direct this, afternoon. It is understood that H.M.S.'Encounter .will remain in port until Monday next, when she also will leave for. Lyttelton. Owing to the flagship leaving Auckland for Sydney on December 29,- tha visit of her men to. the military tourna*, ment to be held at Palmerston on December 31, and January 1 has been rendered impossible. ■'.'•■■■ ■ Vice-Admiral G. F. Kins-Hall, C.V.0., who: is to succeed Sir lUchard .Poore (the latter leaving Sydney-for London on February 23), will , require the services of the Powerful to visit the ' principal port's of Australia' atid also "Fiji. It' is therefore quito probable that the . flag' ship will not be seen in Port Nicholson Harbour again until -November next. : Yesterday morning about 1000 men from the' Warships, lauded and . carried out a route niarch' through the city, out over the liarori hills and back. It was a pretty sight to' see the steam launches towing a couple of cutters each back to the -worships filled with laughing, rollicking Jack Tars. An incident in tha proceeding worthy of note was the quick methodical way in which the men embarked at the wharf, the whole contingent being lined up and aboard their'ro-* spective boats within a few minutes.
