Westport, November 23. The body of Mr. J. W. Mason, solicitor, who was last seen bathing in the 1 Buller River on Tuesday night, was discovered this afternoon about 4 o'clock. An inquest was held to-night, when a verdict of accidental drowning was returned. It" is' surmised" that deceased was seized with cramp and sank just whero the body, was ultimately found. Mr. Ewing had been in. ill-health for some time, and despondent. He was forty-five years of age, single, and lived by himself at the works. AN OLD MAN'S ACT.' Nelson, November 23. An octogenarian' inmate of the Old Men's Home attempted to commit, suicide this afternoon by cutting his throat. He is now in the hospital in a serious condition.
