SUFFRAGETTE RIOT.
MR. ASQUITH STRUCK AND ' CHASED. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. London, November 22. A suffragette struck tho Prime Minister, Mr. Asquith, in Parliament Square. The police hurried tho Premier to a taxi-cab, but tho Suffragette broke the taxi-cab's window. Hundreds of Suffragettes afterwards invaded Downing Street, where there was a wild struggle. Many women and men wero thrown. Mounted police cleared tho streets. Ninety-three arrests wero made, those arrested including Mrs. Pankhurst and Dr. Elizabeth Garrett Anderson. PARLIAMENTARY FACILITIES PROMISED. London, November 22. In the House -of Commons, Mr. Asquith said if the Government returned to' power, facilities would bo given Parliament to deal with tho question of woman suffrage. £IR. BIRRELL'S SHINS KICKED, MINISTERIAL RESIDENCES ATTACKED. (Rec. November 23, 9.25 p.m.) London, November 23. Tho Suffragettes arc incensed at Mr. Asquith merely promising facilities during tho next Parliament, instead of the next session, for tho discussion of ' a freely amendable Suffrage Bill. A hundred and fifty-three arrests havo been made. Mr. Birrell, Chief Secretary for Ireland, had his shins kicked and his. hat jammed down over his eyes. ■. Tho residences of Sir Edward Grey (Foreign Secretary), Mr. Winston Churchill (Home Secretary), Mr. Harcourt (Secretary for the Colonies), and Mrl John Burns (President of the Local Government Board) were attacked. Tho windows in several of the Government offices were also smashed bj the Suffragettes. /
