SENT TO PRISON.

(By Telegraph.—Special Correspondent.) . Wanganui, November 23. A. E. Slipper, originator of the "Stray Parrels - Agency," who wrote to several persons asking them to forward money in. return for stray parcels, was before ! Sir.- Haselden, S.M., this morning. Counsel,! for" accused contended that no false pretence, had- been proved inasmuch ' a'a a mere promise. to forwaTd a parcel did not come'under that category. The magistrate said that lie'could not admit that contention, "and convicted accused.

Counsel' then, asked for probation,-say-ing that Slipper's wife had been'ill, and he was in. straits for money. His Worship refused the . request,' and sentenced Slipper to three months' imprisonment in New Plymouth Gaol. ' :
