ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.
FATHER AND SON' DROWNED.' I (By Telcffrarh—Press' Association.) Hawera, November 21. A sad drowning fatality occurred here yesterday, when Frank .Whiting, aged about forty, a carpenter, and his son , John, aged six, were accidentally drowned while bathing in Robertson's lake. ■ It seems that tho father was swimming with tho boy on his back when he must have become exhausted and sank before he could raise a cry for help. There were three other bathers about at the time, ■ but they did not witness the occurrence. The body of the father was recovored at i in the afternoon, and that of the boy at 5 o'clock this morning.
SETTLER'S SUDDEN DEATH. Christchurch, November 21. The police authorities in Christchurch were informed to-day that Mr. Archibald dairy farmer at Little River, died suddenly yesterday afternoon. ' It is believed that heart disease was the canse of death. . INJURED BY A'FALL. . Ashburton, November 21. • While two railway employees, Thomas P. Magan aud E. Rodgers, were working underneath the railway bridge over the Ashburton River this afternoon the. plank on which they .were standing broke, and both fell to the rough and shingly riverbed. Magan. fractured his right leg, aud had to be removed" to the hospital, while Rodgers escaped with a severe shaking.. '• • .
