A TOUCH OF SUMMER.
>; STBATHSPEYS IN .THE SUET*. "• . Testerday was a very pearl of summer days—Wellington at its. very best. Overhead ' a bright,' cloudless sky, and. a sun to make the coldest feel-glad, its heat tempered by a light southerly: breeze just strong enough to please •: the jaohting fraternity..-. The glory of the -.day called on all to leave : the dnllgrey city,6treets for the brown ocean beaches- and; the cool green vales in the country. The song of tho surfiinade a''special.'appeal.'to the young, and :, throughout • the,, day the beaches at Iya.ll Bay and i Island Bay and at Muritai caught the impress "of:-the many foet ,o£ those who believe in eun and surf bathing under ideal' conditions. Tho costumes worn by •tho bathers were various in'design and.: colour, but it was noticeable. that with very-few, exceptions they '.were, proper' enough,-; showing that tho recent solemn' deliberations on seaside fashions by tho City Fathers have .had effect.' Perhaps the biggest crowd of people keen on .sunshine and .fresh air assembled pn the popular-. Lyall Bay beach, where during the. afternoon ..the Wellington Pipe' Band -• discoursed . a ireird class of musio which accords more with rugged and. burn than with a sepia beach:lapped by tho blue Pacific. Tho Scots among the bathers wero.highly'delighted, and a strathspey in the surf is a fine antidote for the frey 'toil of the .week ■. ■■'■'•'. ■
