Golden Wedding at Pahiatua. Mr! and Mrs. Albert Martin, of Pahiatua, celebrated. their golden wedding on Ihursday evening by a social in the Pahiatua Drill Hal). There was a very large attendance of relatives and friends, and the bride' and bridegroom of fifty years ago were heartily congratulated on tneir attaining the long ■ and unbroken period, of, fifty years , of .married life. .Both are old colonists and experienced a share of the.hardships of.the early davs ! n New Zealand. Air. Martin "arrived in Wellington in 185G and settled in thewairarapa, eventually going to Pahiatua, where he has resided for a number of years, following farming pursuits. . Keports were given of some very successful drawing-room" meetings held recently, when several new members-were enrolled. There were visitors present from; unions .in other parts of .'the Dominion. A "Kitchen Tea." On Saturday afternoon . a "kitchen ea was given by Mrs. Ferguson at Wailoanga. for. Miss Best, who is shortly to be married to Mr. Hill.. A great many people were present, and a most enjoyable .time was spent with music,) recitations, and some novel competitions, in which Mrs. Holton proved- be the prize winner. Tea was served upon the verandah, after which Miss Best thanked everyone for the many ' useful presents she had received that afternoon for the kitchen. . The Hukarere Girls! School, Bishop AxeriU'is making a strong appeal for funds towards the rebuilding of. ;he,jHulvarere School.
