VALUABLE IMPORTATIONS,
PEDIGREE HORSES, CATTLE, AND . SHEEP. , It is good news to hear that the fine stud of draught horses which was established last year by I\lr. Ernest Short is to be augmented by a splendid collection from England. The draughts are of the Clydesdale tyjie, and Mr. James Knight, of \ Feilding, told a' Dominion representative yesterday. that they aro a magnificent lot. A iine of pedigree Herefords is also being imported by Air. Short, and, in speaking of the cattle, Mr. Knight praised them as much as he did the horses. It was expected that Mr. Short would bring out with him some valuable additions for his Rrimney Marsh stud. Mr. Knight stated that the Waituna West breeder had been over tho best Romuey studs in Kent, and had purchased the champion ram' of the Royal and Ashford shows;' The ram, which was bred by the noted C. File; and several other sheep,- are to arrive by tie Rotorua on December 12. Mr. Knight' availed himself of the opportunity of visiting the leading Southdown studs. Ho secured tho champion two-tooth ram at the Chichester Show, a fine sheep bred by Mr. F. H. Jennings, of Cockfield, Suffolk. Ho also bought a four-tooth from tho same stud, and this ram, too, has been successful in the show ring, having won firsts at leading- English shows. His record includes: Royal Counties Show, Winchester—first as two-year-old',, gold, medal for best'ram or ram lamb, champion prize offered by King Edward for best Southdown; Koyal Show, Liverpool—second prize; Sussex County Show—second prize; and-one of winning group for Colman Challenge Bowl, 1910. Mr. Knight also bought a twotooth ram, a ram lamb, and four ewes from Sir Jeremiah Coleman's stud, in Surrey. ?>lr. Davenport, of Christchurch, has brought out a hackney stallion, who is a grandson of Rosador (three times champion of England). The animal's sire is -Toreador, who was twice champion of England; Some high priced rams from tho Chickester sale, some English Leicester sheep, a Shropshire ram, and a Ryeland ram have also been" imported by Mr. Davenport. Manawatu is to! have something new co it'in tho cattle line, Mr.- David Buick, M.P., having imported a bull and a heifer of the Lincoln Red Shorthorn breed.
