»• TH3 GEEY SCHOLARSHIP. The meeting of the Victoria College Council, held- last evening, was attended „ by Messrs. H. F. von Haast (chairman), 0 C. Watson, E, D. Bell, H. .H. Ostler, A. 5 B. Meek, Dr. Prendergast Knight, Rev. 8 W. A. Evan?, W. H. Quick, 'A. W. Hogg, 0i1.P.. C. Wilson, aud J. G. W.Aitken. ; The Finance Committee recommended j! that the Sir George Grey scholarship be " awarded to Percy W. Burbidge, in pur--1 suance of a report by the Professorial S Board. !, Tho Government having agreed to give _ a subsidy of i£GO oil a.douation of physics apparatus of that value, and the donor "■ wishing that the subsidy be spent in irnproving: the library in physics subjects, .. the committee recommenced that Profes- • sor Laby be asked to prepare a list of ; sucli books and submit it to the Library ' . Committee. Professor Easterficid wrote stating that an anonymous donor had presented the 4 sum of <£")0 to be spent in obtaining spell cial apparatus for the chemistry depart--2 ment. Mr. Alfred Bell, of . Shag Valley, 5 had presented a number of books on 1 chemistry. u On the motion of Dr. Knight, the coun--8 cil decided to ask Professors Easterfiekl, 0 Laby, and Von Zedlitz to convey its 3 thanks to the anonymous donors above 5 mentioned. The council also recorded its 1 thanks to Mr. Alfred Bell for books, and 0 to the Government for its subsidy on a - donation.' . 9 The financial statement,' which was ap--8 proved, showed payments required for - November totalling ,£BBO 3s. Sd. The 7 available balance in tho bank totalled J!2647 lis.
