Mr. Jonathan Rhodes, of Dunedin, has been appointed manager of tho steam laundry which the union Steam Ship Company, is erecting at Evans Bay. Mr. Rhodes took an active part in municipal affairs in the southern city, and was at one time Mayor of North East Valley. Mr. Charles AV. Stannard, who was accidentally drowned at Huntcrvillo on Sunday, belonged to Johnsonville. Deceased was only 24 years of age. Lioutenant-Colonel A. Bauchop, who is leaving for England on Friday, will bo farowelled by the Garrison Officers' Club at tho Empire Hotel this evenins at 5 o'olock.
