HUTT BOROUGH COUNCIL.
The ordinary meeting of the Lower Hufrt Borough Council was • held last evening. Those present were-.—The Mayor (Mr. B. P. Bunny), and Councillors Baldwin, Macaskill, Barlow, and Hayes. A smn 'of £100 was voted Messrs. Mason and MaTchant for services rendered. ' ' .
An application for the erection of aa extra room and shower-bath on the recreation ground- for training purposes was granted. .
The Wellingtonßugby Union, wrote accepting the'terms laid down by the council for, the use of. the football grounds. On the motion of Councillor Baldwin, it was decided to erect an out fire station with appliances at White's Line East. '
Mr. Kerr complained that the connection put in for him at his .residence in iVhite's Line East for sewerage purposes had been placed in an inconvenient and expensive point. It was resolved ■to inform complainant that the connection had been put in at the place specified by him. .. ■■■'"'
Referring to the question of the drainage from his land to Everest Creek culvert, Mr. London complained that a/considerable amount, of water had been deposited on his property from the drain put in along the Wakefield Street. The Mayor moved that tho engineer be instructed to wait upon Mr. London and to ascertain the true position. The Upper Town. Board asked if the council would be willing to co-operate with the Upper Hutt Town Board and the Petone Borough Council in arranging for a joint deputation to the Prime Minister .and to representatives from such local authorities meeting previously ,to discuss the scheme.' The reply had been sent by direction of the Mayor agreeing to the suggestion,' and the council confirmed, the .Mayor's action..: '
On the application of the Bev. ,T. Jones, a license was granted for the new hall in Woburn Road. ' ■- ,
The question of rating Knox Church was brought bofore the council by the Valuer-Genei-al. Tho Valuer-General's letter pointed out that in the past the land had, been rated under two asseMments, and 'it was now proposed to rate the property in three assftsments. On tlio motion of Councillor Baldwin it was resolred to rate the manse, ami that th© other buildings (church, Sunday school, and Bible class-rooms) be exempt.
The Valuer-General further wrote in reference to a certain claim by Mr. 'Leighton, and stated that it was impossible to uphold samp.
A very lengthy report was submitted by the'engineer and adopted.
