THE GOVERNMENT'S POLICY.
LABOUR LEGISLATION. MAY OPEN STATE MINES. By Teleeraph-Presa Association-Oopyrieht. Sydney, November 14. Parliament, will be opened to-morrow. It is understood the Opposition will take an early .opportunity oi testing the Strength of parties. (Rec. November 15, 0.50 a.m.) Sydney, November 14. The Cabinet, and subsequently the Labour Caucus, held meetings to-day to consider the subject-matter of the Governor's Speech to bo delivered pn Wednesday. To-morrow's opening will only be formal. _ Mr, M'Gowen, the Premier, to-night delivered a pre-sessional speech to a large gathering. In it he covered his campaign promises, and stated that' at the earliest possible moment he would' pass a new Industrial Disputes Act,, which would re-enact the principle of industrial arbitration as originally advocated. The Workmen's Compensation Aot would be amended so as to cover every calling in the State that could be brought under it, and make- it jnoro in conformity with the New Zealand Act. He also proposed to amend tho Electoral Act, in order to give votes to people in asylums and to the military. He also promised an extension of the Wagos Boards and of the eight-hours system. If nocessarj tho Government would open State mines in the north, south, and western coalfields. ' The revenue , from tho land tax would ba devoted to the development of the railways and the opening up oil lands. . _ ...
