Beautiful weather prevailed for the opening of the Palmerston Tennis Club's courts this afternoon. There was a very large attendance of members and their friends, and the opening ceremony, was performed by the president, Mr. W. L. •Fitzhcrbert. The courts were in splendid order, and the grounds generally looked beautiful, having been greatly improved by the planting of ferns and cabbage trees and flowering plants. Afternoon tea was dispensed, ami a pleasant afternoon spent. A largo number of now members have been elected, and tho club promises to have a most successful year. The club has received a communication from the Wellington Centre suggesting that tho date of its annual tournament, January 2, 3, and 4, should bo altered, but the matter has been held over for tho present.
