PECULIAR PETITION.
■. '. .. ■ ■ ? —— . .. A ;TOTJLLISATOR INCIDENT. ; A somewhat peculiar petition was 'presented to the House of' Representatives yesterday by Mr. Buick, M.P., on , behalf '.of Annie Treweek, of Palmerston -North. - Petitioner states that sho went to the Woodvillo races on February 23, and before the Whariti Handicap was run she applied for eight tickets on the horse Waitoto, number "4," but was handed five tickets' on Waitoto' and three separato tickets on the horse Skye, No. .5, in the. same racs. She : did. not notice the mistake at the.time, but? the race was won by Skye. , She did not present .the tickets that day, but did so on the following day of the races. Tho officials of the club, it is alleged, admitted tliat the tickets were genuine, but refused to 'give her anything,' saying' that as the .tickets had not 'been applied for, and had not been rung on tho tota'lisator on tho winner, sho was'not entitled: to any dividend. They urged further that as,the tickets word not presented on the day of the race* the club could, under the "Rules of Racing," refuse to piry the. dividend on those tickets; .Petitioner stated a case to the Hawke's Bay Metropolitan Club, which upheld tho decision of the Wood-voile-Club. . She.asks that the House should give this petition serious con-sideration-in the interests of'the racing public generally. ;
