■ * DISTRICT ORDERS. District orders by Lieut.-Colonel A. Bauchop, C.M.G. (commanding the Wellington district), include the following announcements :— Rifle Sights.—The use of sights other than those issued on the rifle or carbine —viz., fore sight, back sight, and aperture sight—is strictly forbidden when firing any part of the course of target practice laid down for the New Zealand Defence Forces. Sargood Cup Competition.—Corps inteiiding to compete for the Sargood Cup arc requesetd to forward the dates on which they propose to have this competition carried out, at as early a date as possible. ' Certificates of rank have been issued to tho following non-commissioned officers and men:— ■ Taranaki Rifles—A. S. Marratt, J. F. Joseph, E. E. Clark (sergeants); V. C; Davis, W. F. Southam (corporals).
Engineers.—K. M. Carter (sergeant); K. B. Garvey, C. \V. Forbes, E. W. Thane, C. Morrish, C. C. Carter, (second corporals). D Battery.—C. H. Nelson, R. Sinel, W. H. Simmons, B. D. Smith, E. S. Wood, H. Plimmer (sergeants); J. Cotterill, J.' Jessen, W. K. Hartv, J. W. Gendall, H. Focke, E. E. Edwards, A. R. Charlton, E. J. Shearme, A. B. Leggett, D.-K. Gibb, A. E. Ross, W. H. Johnson, 0. Svcnsson, P. Ackins, W. G. Schock, V. Gapes, A. A. Brown, E. Rowe, A. Wallis (bombardiers); A. Shilling, H. Beck (corporals). Training Camp.—Permission has been 'granetd the undermentioned battalion, squadnn, and company to hold their annual training camp as follows: Royal Rifles, November 14-21, 1910; Masterton Mounted Rifles, January 3-9, 1911; Second Battalion, Wellington (West Coast) Rifles, February •4-11, 1911. Senior Cadets. —Acting-lieutenant appointments have been granted to W. R. Kells and F. D. Opie (Palmerston North Technical School Cadets); A. Wilson and L.- S.' M'Lernon (No. 1 Company, Napier High School Cadets); G. G. C. Homig and C. C. Eastou (St. Anno's Rifle Cadets); A. P. Dwan (St. Vincent Rifle Cadets). Tho resignations of M. D. Smith and E. S. Harston, of the Napier High School Cadets, have been accepted.
