(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) Christchurch, November 8. What is probably the- largest sale ever held in the Dominion of purebred shorthorns of the milking strain took place at the Showgrounds, Addington, to-day, when 70 head of cows, heifers, and bulls, from Mr. Arthur Chamberlain's notel herd, were disposed of by auction. There was a large attendance, including buyers from the North Island, Blenheim, and Otago. Tho largest purchaser was Mr. H. Acton Adams, of <Moa Hat, Otago. There was a very good demand, especially for young bulls, and 'some of the cows and heifers met with good competition. The imported bull, Charming Count, was ■ sold at 85 /guineas to Mr, G. H.vPark,-Wajiaio.

Eighteen months to twd-year-old bulls made 25 guineas to 33 guineas; yearling bulls, 12 guineas to 30 guineas; bull calves, 2 guineas to 6 guineas; cows, 9 guineas to 26 guineas; three-year heifers, 9 guineas to 27 guineas; two-year heifers, 9 guineas to 20 guineas; yearling heifers, 6 guineas to 26 guineas; heifer calves, 4 guineas to 8 guineas.

The report of the Bank of Australasia for the half-year to April 11 states that the net profit, after making the usual allowances and granting a-bonus of 10 per cent, to the staff, was £193,723. The dividend at tho rate of. 12 per cent. (£2,Bs. per share), and tho bonus at the increased raw of .16s. per share, absorb £128,000. All oitrus fruits >aro high. A small lot of Island oranges transshipped at Auckland was marketed yesterday, and met with a good demand. ' Strawberries aro .coming in now and making good money for the growers. < ' Vegetables.—Supplies of praotically- all classes of vegetables are increasing. Cabbages axe in full supply, and realise from 15..t0 3s. per sack; prime quality cauliflowers continue to sell well. Green': peas are more plentiful, and the price now is about 4d. to Bd. per peck; new potatoes are easier, as supplies have increased, tho current quotation being 2d. to 2Sd. per,lb; Ithubarb is selling at'3s. to.ss. per dozen, and tomatoes are easier .at Bd. to lid. per lb'. . Bran.—Owing to several mills having closed down for overhaul, supplies aro somewhat scarce, and the'price has.advanced to £4.per tori, f.o.b. south. Pollard is offered at £5 per ton, f.o.b. south. . - ' .. . Flour is "without any change; the quotation current. locally for sacks is £9 ss. 6d. per ton. ' Fowls' Wheat—A fair business is being done,' but there is nd change in values. Oats—The market continues strong; locally tho quotation is 2s. 6d. to 2s. Bd. per bushel. Butter.—Supplies are now more plentiful; prime milled in bulk is in fair- demand at' 95d. tolOd.pcr lb. Cheese.—New 'seasons cheese is selling freely at about 6d. per lb.
