George Gray, tho Australian billiardisr won the match against Nelson by 4602 Gray carried his unfinished break to 714. GEAY'S RECORD BREAK. A recent number of "Sporting Life" has the following interesting account or Geor"o Gray's record break, made in tho match against F. W. Hughes at Leeds on September 29:The evening's play resulted in farny establishing a world's record, amid a scone of tremendous enthusiasm. Ino , hall was packed when he resumed his break. The young Australian carried his score to over 600, all off tho red, when the white barred the line for more redball play. Gray, however, after playing an in off the white, got the red into position again, and amidst the greatest excitement passed the then existing record of 836. ~ . , For some minutes the enthusiasm of the audience mado further play impossible, but the young Australian, who was affectionately congratulated by Ins father, seemed tho coolest person in the company. When the ovation had subsided ho resumed, and still scoring entirely off the red ball, made his break into tho magnificent figure, of 985. Then, when only 15 short of the coveted thousand, he failed with an easy in oft in the left middle pocket, tho sumo stroke with which he broke down on the preceding day. Only onco moro did he go to the table, for, with an unfinished break of 114 he ran to his points. Thus for tho night's play ho had tho extraordinary averago of 750, whilst his opponent, Hughes, in his only visit to tho table, made 39.
