Two candidates are announced for the • office of workers' representative, on the Arbitration Court, which falls vacant-in January next. One is Mr. J. M'Cullough, of Riccarton, Christchurch, the • sitting representative, and the other Mr. It. Slater, of.Dunedin, who represented the workers in the Court until three years ago. Mr. M'Cnllough's candidature l was approved by the Trades' Council Conference held at Auckland in July ■ last. In previous elections of workers' representatives on the Court, the prin- .- ciple of one union one vote has ruled, irrespective of membership. This procedure is altered under the provisions of the • Arbitration Act Amendment Act of 1908. Section 55 of this measure provides that ' a union of not more than fifty members ; shall exercise one voto in electing a representative on the Court, and that-a union having more than fifty members shall exercise one vote for every complete fifty of its members. Mr. G. Tovey, aged 78, was one of theplayers in an all-day cricket match between Pewsev and ColHngbournc, played at Pewsey. Wiltshire.
