THEATRE ROYAL. t A n, nun mt er o£ familiar fac « relumed to the Theatre Royal last evening and ' were received with unmistakeable sigu3 or approval by an enthusiastic aiidience.Among theso were Mr. Harry Saddler, a hard-working comedian, who dips deep into eccentric lugubriosity for his laughter effects, mostly with success. Hβ scored last evening in a quartet of coniie songs. The pick of these were "Stick to my Hand, Penelope," and an uproarious burlesque on the Spanish dancing girl entitled "Flora de Ding de Girl." "John Willie was given with all its old-time success. Another decided favourite is Beryl Gilman, who has more voice and more culturo than the average vaudeville balladist. Her clear enunciation- and Posing indicate that she has either pronted by sound vocal tuition or has developed a valuable natural talent. She should sing a better class of song than 'Tell Me" and "The Faded Picture." Miss Beattie Jl'Donald.is a pleasing serio ™ always receives a good hearing in Wellington. Her numbers last evening were well tppreciated. J. M. West, the daring aerial equilibrist, is a star feature ot the programme. On the top of a double platform he plants a brass stand- ■ ard fitted with a revolving hand-grip. Grasping this in one hand he throws his , legs into the air, and in the inverted position strikes several graceful poses whilst maintaining a perfect balance. His final act consists of eliding down a pair of brass rails on his hands with his body ' !AT Mr \ 1- viTi *n (baritone) sang Ttfy Ship and I," and "Violette" satisfactorily, Miss Nellie Searle returned with a. number of new serio comic songs, and ■ little Horace Dentice exhibited precocious talent in the song "When You Dream."' Ihe biograph picture "Estrellita" gave"; an interesting touch to a bright and varied programme. The management promise a. resumption ' of' the amateur trial nights for Friday next. ' A magnificently coloured, dramatic film, ' Athalia, a story of the Old Testament, ' occupies the. greater part of the first half ' of the programme.
