London, November G., . Speaking at Oxford, Mr. Haldaue, Sec-' rotary of State.for War, stated that whether the ,Veto Conference foiled or not it would havo an influence, for good. It was desirable that tho great parties should approach each other and come closer on certain subjects. These approaches, ialways tentative, might not : succeed, but they would never be mado without some result. What was obscure would become -by..their means to some extent translucent.

"The Times" states that if as a result of the Veto Conference tho. party leaders can jointly recommend the House of Commons to accept proposals for a compromise, it is probable that the support they would receive would outweigh the casting vote of the Irish, with whoa the Labour party may act. .. ' • .'
The "Daily Chronicle" hints that Mr. Asquith is anxious to submit to the Cabinet Council to be held to-morrow a tentative proposal for a settlement by consent, so that he may thereafter be enabled to take a decisive, lino at the Conference.
