The Minister for Public Works is being asked by Mr. Field whether tho late Mr. P. S. Hay made a report on the Tokomaru or Mangaonoho Rivers near Shannon, as a source of supply for water power for tho creation of electrical energy; and whether—in view I of the largo demand there is for such power, owing to tho enormous development of the flaxmilling and dairy industries in tho Levin, Shannon, and Tokomar'i districts during recent years, and from other causes —tho Government will accede to the strongly-ox-pressed wishes of local bodies, "flaxmillcrs, dairy-farmers, and settlers generally in the. abovo districts, by having an early report mado by a competent engineer on tho. expediency of harnessing one or other of the abovo-mentioned rivers for the supply of electrical energy io meet the needs of the districts.
