ULIMAROA LEAVES SYDNEY. Cable advico has been received by the local office of the Co., stating that tho TJlimaroa left. Sydney for Wellington direct at. 4 p.m. on Saturday, November 5. The vessel ha 6 340 passengers for all ports, and 830 tons of cargo to land at Wellington. Given fine weather the Ulimaroa should show up at this port early on Wednesday morning. AT WELLINGTON POR BUNKERS. Yesterday at 3.45 p.m. the New Zealand Shipping Company's Kaikoura arrived from Timaru and anchored in the stream. This morning tho Blackball Company's Pctone will commence bunkering the liner, after which the Kaikoura will proceed to Picton, Tokomaru Bay. Gisborne, Napier, and Wellington for Homeward loading. The vessel has been, on the waiting berth at Port Chalmers since August 21. NEREHANA AT AUCKLAND. Yesterday the Tyser Line's Nerehana made her appearance at 'Auckland from London, via way ports. On the way out from Home to Mclbourno the vessel's steering gear carried away, and, as sho is a twin-screw vessel, steering by moans of her propellers was resorted to. In consequence of tho mishap the Nerehana is later arriving in New Zealand than. was anticipated. She is due at Wellington about the end of this week. EARL OP CARRICK ARRIVES. After a lengthy passage tho Vacuum Oil Company's chartered steamer Earl of Carrick. of tho Earl of Carrick Steamship Line, Glasgow, arrived in port at 7.35 p.m. yesterday from New York, via Nowcastlo and Auckland. The vessel left tho American port on July 31, encountering ■ iino weather all the way to Newcastle. After leaving tho latter port the "Earl" ran into a heavy S.W. gale and high seas, which lasted for two days, after which fine weather was experienced to Auckland. At the northern port tho vessol discharged some 40,000 cases of oil, and left for Wellington and south on Thursday last with the balance of her cargo, consisting of 100,000 cates, 62,000 of which is to bo landed at this port. The steamer is commanded by Captain Renuic, and the following officers are associated with hiin:-'Ohief officer. Mr. J. Smith; second, Mr. W. W. Waddell; third, Mr. D. M'Farlane. Mr. Nisbct is chief engineer, Mr. J. Playfair second, Mr. W. MTarlano third, and Mr. I). Cameron fourth. To-day the Kittawa is to leave Wellington for Grcymouth. The vessel has been in port for some time- awaiting orders. Captain A. B. Powell is taking charge of the Kittawa. and his ofiicei'3 at present aro as.follow.—Second, Mr. ,1. Captain E. E. Smith, lato of the Mo-l-toia, is to talve charge of the Ifanulca at Dunodin in place of Captain L. Worrall, who will go to Sydney to take command of tho Marama, which will shortly reenter the intercolonial service. On October 21 tho Waitemata arrived at Singapore, and is I due at Calcutta, today. Both tho Aparima and tho Waitcmata aro expected to leave Calcutta'about tho end of November for Hew Zealand ports. In connection with the arrival of tho s.s. Earl, of Carrick, Captain Eennie, announces elsewhere in this issue that ho will not bo responsible for any debts contracted without his written authority. The now Tyser Line steamer.lndrabarah is to load 15,000 sacks of grain at Lyttclton. She is expected to leave tho southern port to-night for Napier and other North Island ports, and will leave Vollinzton finally for Home on November 29. Upon completion of discharge of her cargo of coal for tho warships at Melbourne tho Wairuna will proceed to Newcastle, where sho loads for Wellington, Lyttelton, and Timaru. A projected departure from Grcymouth for Wellington and NapieT to-night is the Poherua. She ; is due in port, to-morrow, and, after discharging part of her..cargo, proceeds to Napier to complete. It is expected that the Kurow will have completed discharge, of her • cargo of coal by to-morrow, and will leave for Westport during the day."- ' l ....•-.•■-■ Mr. F. L. Peterson, lato chief engineer of the Pateena, lias. gone to Auckland to join tho Kini in a similar capacity. On Saturday both tho trawler Nora Niven and the coastal steamer Queen of the South came off the Patent Slip after having undergone, overhaul.... At 2 p.m.- on Saturday the barque Glenshee, which has been waiting at anchor in the stream- for some days for seamen to complete her crew, loft for Duncdin. Tho Westport Coal. Company's Canopus is expected to load at "Westport on Thursday next for Wellington. She will probably clear the West Coast port on Thursday night, and is duo here on Friday. In a big Atlantic. liner there aro over 1000 tons of piping of various kinds. The boiler tubes, if placed end to end, would stretch about ten miles, and the condenser tubes over twenty-five miles. The condensers pump up more than 50,000 tons of water a day, and the furnaces consume about 8,0C0,0C0 cubic feet of air per hour.
