ST. ANNE'S CATHOLIC CHURCH.
"QUARENT ORE" SERVICE. A celebration of the "quarent ore," or forty hours' adoration, service was commenced in St. Anne's .Catholic ' Church, Newtown, yesterday morning. A solemn. High Mass was .celebrated by Father Herring, Archdeacon Dovoy, Father BaTcley, the deacon, and sub-deawns. Tho ■choir, led by Mr. Reade, accompanied the Mass. Afterwards a procession of the Blessed Sacrament traversed tho grounds of the church. The children of the parish and members of different religious societies took part in the procession. Members of the Hibernian Society acl'ed as a guard of honour, and St. Anne's cadet. corp9 lined, tho route with arms at the present. ' A very large, congregation bf the parishioners. occupied /The grounds while the procession was in progress. The devotions were continued all day. In tho evening the church was crowded, when the Rev. Father Venning preached, his subject being "The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass." A number of children who had made their first Communion in the morning renewed their baptismal vows after the sermon. The "quarent ore" service will be oontinned to-day, and is to conclude on Tuesday morning.
