THE BULLFINCH BOOM
-4 RUSH CONTINUES UNABATED. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. Perth, November 4. The Bullfinch rush continues unabated. There are only two surveyors available, and this is resulting in overwork. Pegging out is carried on at night by candle-light. It is stated that many leases have been pegged which are utterly worthless. LONDON'S FLOTATIONS. NEW COMPANIES FORMED. London, November 3. "The Proprietary of Western Australia" has been formed with a capital of half a million. There was no public issue, £150,000 being privately subscribed. The vendors receive 300,000 j shares and £100,000 in cash for 145 acres. . The Yilgarn goldfields at Southern Cross Jlr. D. It. Doolette, of Western Australia, describes as. one of the richest Bonanzas in Western Australia. GOVERNMENT PROSPECTING. ... MUCH PROMISING COUNTRY TO BE i OPENED. The West Australian Minister for Mines (Mr. Gregory) states that his Department is making : strenuous efforts to assist prospectors attracted by the Bullfinch discovery, which has caused an exodus of miners from all other fields to' Southern Cross.. He recommends a careful perusal of the Department's publications, showing the values won in the old days from leases both north and south of Southern Cross, and long abandoned, but which, under.the present altered conditions, should give satisfactory results. ' The Department, says an Australian press message o£ October 28, has done a great, deal to bring about the present developments by the erection of batteries, and providing a water supply. A dam has been made near Marvel Loch, and a 3,000,000 gallon tank at Devoria. ' Wells and waterholes have been made, opening ' up the track for prospectors right through to Phillips River, along which thero is a large area of auriferous country to .the north-west. Southern Cross provided a water supply for the battery at Kolyanodbing, conditionally upon public crushings at Golden Valley, seven miles, from Bullfinch, being.carted to the battery. Instructions had been issued for providing water supplies from Mount Jackson north to • Touanme, thus giving communication from Southern Cross to Sandstone and midway cast to Mullino, north of- Mount Jackson. Gold' has been discovered by Beimel and others at the, three-mile. ■ East, towards Miilline, thero were many belts of good-looking auriferous country. In the Minister's opinion there was no reason why' good auriferous country should not exist throughout a vast area from Cheriton's find south to Southern Cross,-and the north-west fields and east to Youanme and Mount Ida. He,proposes to concentrate the whole efforts of the Geological; Mines, and Water Supply Department on this area. Mr. Gibbe Maitland,, Government Gco ; logist, will send his staff, if possible, ahead of the prospectors, and early bulletins will be issued. Tho water supply officers will follow, providing wells, soaks, rockholes, and tanks, and particulars of their work will bo published in guides to prospectors.
