"What truth, if any, is there in the report, whiclr:has. gained currency'.in the Levin district, that the Department propose to destroy, either wholly or partially, the largo and highly successful orchard on the Wereroa Experiment Farm, which is at present in full bearing? This was a question which Mr. Field, M.P: for Otaki, put to the Hon. T. Mackenzie recently. Replying in the House yesterday, Mr. Mackenzie said that the Department most certainly does not contemplate the destruction of any useful or productive fruit trees. A considerable area is devoted to testing varieties. Of ■ those trees, some, that have served their purpose, are being discarded, but • the valuable demonstrations obtained by testing still continue.
