GBAIN AND PEODUOE. • IBy Telegraph.-Press Association'.! Chrlstchurch, November 1, There is 6till only a small- amount of business passing in wheat. Host of the stores in town are now. cleared of. stocks of grain, and farmers who are holding wheat are less anxious than before to sell in view of the extremely dry season that is being experienced. The only buyers are shippers who have space' to fill in the last two steamers that have been arranged for to take wheat at a low freight. No sales of any consequence are reported, and 3s. to 3s. Id. are the best prices offered for good to prime - wheat. Oats are still very; firm, but tiic recent advance in prices has reduced the demand from the North. Island. A line of ICOO bushels of B grade Oartons has -been purchased at Is. lid. at a 2d. station. For local consumption there are very few oats' offering, and in view of the scarcity of feed in some-of the . country districts the supplies for outside orders is limited.
Potatoes are still dearer, and some mer-. chants have.had .to give up to £10 per ton for Derwente at country stations. They-are mostly odd lots of a few bags that are now being offered, and the market is almost over for the season.
