GENERAL FARMING NEWS.

The annual meeting of the Heretannga Co-operative Dairy Company was held on Saturday night. The balance-sheet showed a credit balance of £1150, as against a profit last year of .£523. It is considered that the increased quantity will bo maintained .this year. One thousand six hundred and forty-four boxes of butter were exported during the season, for which, £1231 was received, ft was decided, to handle the credit balance as follows :-=-Seven per cent dividend, .£252; Jd. bonus, £739; remaining, .£164. Messrs. J. Reston, A. Wellwood, and S. Skewes were elected to. the vacancies, en the directorate. Mr. F. Cook was subsequently elected managing director,'and it was resolved that, the .managing director should . in future ba paid a fixed salary, the amount to bo fixed by. tho.directors. A meeting of shareholders of the Elthain Dairy Company was held on Saturday afternoon, with the object of receiving an explanation of the directors' reasons- for. postponing action in regard to the proposed pork and bacon company until the next annual'meeting of shareholders. A full discussion took place, in tho. course of which the directors, explained their views on. the question, and those who had opposed tho proposal gave their reasons for doing, so. A motion was submitted as follows: "That this meeting,.while recognising that■ the various directors have given _ conscientious consideration and explanation in reference to the pork..business, yet is of opinion that tho directors be -instructed ■ to proceed with, the business in connection with other dairy companies." An aemndment '-was put as' follows.—"That a. vote of thanks and confidence be given.to tho directors, and that the shareholders en- . dorse their action in shelving the pork and bacon project." The voting resulted:—For the amendment, 24;' against, 27. For the motion,-30; against, 31.—Elthani "Argus." :
