DEBATING TOURNAMENT.
The first debate in the fourth round of the AVellington Debating Societies' Union's tournament took place last evening between the Catholic Club and the Vivian Street Baptists, and resulted in ■ a victory for the latter by four points. The following are the scores: — Vivian Street (affirmative):— Hay: Matter 32, method 23, delivery 20, total 75. Townsend: Matter 31, method 21, delivery 17, total 69. Humphreys: Matter 30, method. 19, delivery 21, total 70; combined treatment, 18. grand total, 232. ' Catholio Club (negative):— Butcher: Matter 38, method 20, delivery 21, total 79, Schmidt:.Matter 28,.method 18, delivery 19, total 65. Boyce: Matter 31, method 19, delivery 20, total 70; combined treatment, 11; grand total, 228. Mr. F. G- Boiton acted as judge.
